Tips for Irish in Korea

Everything you need for a class trip

Uber doesn't work — download Kakao T

Uber is a no-go in Korea. Download Kakao T instead: shows you the fare upfront and translates the address for the driver. Like Free Now, but Korean. Works a treat.

Naver Map beats Google Maps

Google Maps is grand for basics, but for public transport Naver Map is miles better. Has English mode and shows metro and bus in real time. Absolute lifesaver.

T-money — your Leap Card for Korea

Grab one from any convenience store (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven). Top it up and use it on metro, bus and shops. Just like your Leap Card back home. €3 covers a full day in Seoul.

Irish passport = visa-free 90 days

With an Irish passport you don't need a visa or K-ETA for South Korea. Just fly — 90 days, no paperwork, no bother.

Korean food — absolutely savage

Samgyeopsal (meat grilled at the table — like a BBQ but indoors, class craic), Chimaek (fried chicken + beer — your new favourite combo, trust us), Bibimbap (rice, veg, egg). Want it spicy? Say "maewoon". Side dishes (banchan) are free and unlimited — just keep asking for more.

Must-do in Korea

Korea has loads to offer Irish travellers:

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

Do I need a SIM card from Incheon Airport?
Not at all. eSIM is fully digital: buy online, scan QR, sorted. Set it up at home before you fly and land with 5G ready. No queues, no swapping.
Cheaper than Three roaming?
Way cheaper. Three charges €7-15/day for Korea roaming. Our unlimited 5G eSIM works out at about €1.50/day on the weekly plan. Over 80% savings. Lovely stuff.
Will my Irish number still work?
Grand! Dual SIM means your Three, Vodafone or Eir SIM stays active. Calls, texts and bank codes work as normal. The eSIM only handles data.
Can I livestream and video call?
Absolutely! Korean 5G is some of the fastest in the world. Livestreams, FaceTime, WhatsApp Video — all run like a dream. You'll be FaceTiming the family from Gyeongbokgung no bother.
Which phones support eSIM?
iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20+, Google Pixel 3+ and most newer Androids. If it says eSIM in your settings — you're grand. Not sure? Just ask us.
Can I share data as a hotspot?
Yeah! Share internet with your laptop, tablet or your mate's phone. All plans have hotspot included. Unlimited = unlimited hotspot. Sound.
